Sunday 04/26/10

Sunday was sunny which made everyone (well I hope so) happy. What made ME happy was the below pictures.

I love shades of taupe. I love Sean in shades of taupe. What I love the most though is this vest. I love vests (on men) like I love Christian Bale (which is kind of a big deal if you know me AT ALL). This vest straddles the formal/casual line nicely. Good enough for your dress shirts yet equally cool with a t-shirt.

Paul and Liz ARE BACK!!!! And love obviously agrees with Paul. I managed to snap this picture for the 2 seconds Paul wasn't being embraced by someone. The jeans with the blazer with the scarf with the untucked dress shirt (gasp) and don't even get me started on the facial hair. Stylish and age appropriate...bravo Paul bravo.

I feel like this photo of Margo needs no explanation. This is the dress I wish they made for adults and yet I doubt I could pull it off as well as she does. PINK GLITTERY BUTTERFLIES!

Kathy Hayes...white pants, and a satiny floral print top with a twisted halter neck. And I'm loving the bouffant ponytail. I think when your clothes make you happy, and Kathy looks pretty happy, that is when you know you have succeeded with your outfit.

I appreciate simplicity. I really do, although you may not be able to tell that when you see me. Which is why I appreciate Hadley. The simplicity of the black dress with the ruched waist. The patent red Mary Janes. The small pendant necklace. Classy.

Now a note about my own fashion sense. I purchased a pair of leather leggings recently and I can't stop wearing them. I'm wearing them as I type, I have worn them to parties, the movies, the art museum, church. They are so comfortable. I have decided to wear them with floral prints, a kind of glam prairie. Yes your reaction probably should be WTH. Picture Laura Ingalls Wilder with black eye shadow....hee hee.

Moscow Trip 04/17/10

So every time I come back to a college town the bad fashion, usually either athletic or lack of clothing, hits me in the face repeatedly until I pass out in the street. I know however that when I was living in Moscow I wasn't that amazingly dressed either but I at least tried. I routinely horrified some of my roommates by going about town wearing torn up nylons, a "vintage" (hah!) Bush (the band) T-shirt (thanks Asher!), and my denim skirt. I freely admit that I probably looked terrible but I was LEARNING, and that's ok. If you don't agree with that go back a few posts and read my Tim Gunn quote. If after that you still don't agree stop reading and get on someone else's blog! :P

Back to Moscow though, one of my goals for this trip was to visit The Storm Cellar...if you don't know about The Storm Cellar, facebook them, google them, just do what needs to be done. The store sells vintage and name brand secondhand clothing. Everything is in great condition and I myself purchased a beautiful vintage brooch there today which is currently making up part of my necklace. See (bad) picture below.

That's all for now darlings, see you when I get back. ABBS

Sunday 04/11/10 The Day After The Wedding

The above post is so titled because I have observed a phenomenon over the course of my long and varied life. The Sunday after a wedding people tend too...how shall I put this...look rather subdued.

Example #1: The first thing someone told me when I got to church was that my "eyes looked puffy" They did look puffy, but I think my gold flats more than made up for it!

All the above was to explain why there are only two pictures below...two lousy photos...but that's ok because everyone looked DIVINE at Liz and Paul's wedding on Saturday.

It almost feels like cheating to publish a picture of a small adorable child. But Amara had a tutu, a flower headband, and is rocking those sunglasses, all in Spring appropriate colors.

For those of you who don't know...this is Christa! Christa people, people Christa. I would just like to thank her for BRINGING IT, despite partying all hours of the night. The print is fabulous, and what you can't see in the picture are the large gold, leaf earrings.

And now some housekeeping notes. I shall be gone this Sunday in Moscow. When you are all done weeping just think, that means you can all look really bad on Sunday and it won't matter lol.

If somebody was really ambitious they could take pictures for me and have a guest column? Just a thought...ABBS

Sunday 04/04/10...EASTER!

Well...it was Easter Sunday today. HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED! Ok well a lot of people "stepped up their game". I was impressed,I was awed, I was amazed, I was blinded by the examples of beauty below.

Jordan Prentice. Gray wool pants with a subtle pattern (check!) Beautiful Ben Sherman sweater (check!) And a loverly color palette of gray and lavender (check!) So Spring, So Easter, So perfect.

So at first I wasn't that impressed with Josiah's outfit. I mean the seafoam shirt was delightful but he was just a guy in a black suit. But then he took off the jacket and BAM! Those skinny suspenders hit me in the face...nice

First of all Ana and Matt work this photo like no one else could. (Not to mention Margo with the bottle) Second Matt is CLASSIC, in his gray three piece suit. Ana has my favorite color combo of the day, bright orange with gray and dark red shoes.

So my sister Angela is adorable. The color is fantastic and the dress has ruffle detailing at the collar and a cute ribbon sash.

Check SpellingSo Rebekah Conser and I are matchy matchy. Light pink floaty tops with rose detail at the neckline. Springy and feminine.

EJ caused the largest disturbance this Easter...I won't say EXACTLY why but it was something he was wearing that caused one individual to run into the kitchen to tell me I HAD to see him.

Great group picture...it was freezing and I made them all take off their jackets and pose! from left to right: Kerilynn, Elisa, Lindsey, Susannah, Bethany, Hadley, Rebekah, and Shayleen.

The above picture is to showcase Scott's new car. Isn't she a beauty? :-P

We close this Sunday's review with Liz. Beautiful Liz who is getting married on Saturday! She is wearing a great halter polka dot dress and a lovely red scarf. Look how happy she is!

Style

"There is, in American culture, a premium place on being 'nice.' Although this can make life easier in many ways, it is simply hell for developing style. Style requires a 'like it or lump it' attitude towards one's public. Your public includes husbands, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, mothers, children, workmates, classmates, and the people who pass you on the street. You do not exist to win their approval. Does this mean we think you should wear a cocktail dress and saddle shoes to work because that's what you love? Well let us invoke the Blackstone Ratio: 'Better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffers.' In other words, if adjusting to and discovering your personal style results in a few funny outfits, so be it. What is important is that a space is created for a person to embrace who she truly is. Even if, and it pains us to write this, it includes saddle shoes."
